… and you thought it was Torah with Larry David?

For generations, Jews have looked to commentators to add color and meaning to their study of Torah. Each teacher, whether ancient or modern, comes to Torah with his/her own perspective. For this year of study, we will add the voices of Rabbi Lawrence (Larry) Kushner and award winning playwright and author David Mamet to our Shabbat morning discussions. Using their book, Five Cities of Refuge: Weekly Reflections on Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, we will explore Kushner and Mamet’s unapologetic and illuminating comments before wrestling with them ourselves. Hopefully their reactions to key verses from each week’s Torah portion will open the book for us to new layers of understanding. We will commence our study of Torah with Larry and David beginning with Parashat Bereshit on October 17.
