FROM THE RABBI’S DESK
Where will you be a year from now?

MISSION 2008:
THE MOST TRANSFORMATIONAL
TRIP YOU
CAN IMAGINE

There are four experiences, experts tell us, which transform Jewish life and solidify one’s Jewish identity:

  1.   Jewish Summer Camp
  2.   Jewish Youth Group
  3.   Jewish Day School
  4.   A Trip to ISRAEL

Thankfully, at CSR we provide access to three out of four of these opportunities.  And if you ask me, when it comes to the kind of trip we are planning, the first three elements of transformation are all contained within the fourth!  I want to once again invite you to join us on our Bi-annual Community Synagogue of Rye, Israel Mission /Pilgrimage, February 14-24, 2008.

From walking through the tunnels beneath the walls of the Holy Temple to standing atop Mount Scopus to see Jerusalem in all her glory; from digging through archaeological ruins at Belt Guvrin to walking through the unique geology of the Ramon Crater; from viewing the historic ruins at Petra to floating in the Dead Sea and walking along the paths that countless numbers of our people have walked for thousands of years, every hour holds unimaginable discoveries and moments of awe and insight that defy words.

The shared journey with congregants that spans the generations becomes a 10-day Jewish summer-camp of sorts, where bonds of friendship become the sweetest of blessings...  For this is not simply a trip we are taking, rather a mission, a pilgrimage whose message will transcend it, enabling you to feel all that it can mean to “live Israel,” to “do Israel,” to “be Israel”... and all that it will continue to mean for Israel to live and be in you.   If you haven’t picked up on the key point I’m trying to make, it can be summarized in one word: TRANSFORMATIONAL!!
Tamara and I look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you,

 Rabbi Daniel Gropper
