Rabbi Daniel Gropper  

Rabbi GropperRabbi Gropper believes that a rabbi's role is to create sacred relationships and to give people the tools and resources to be God’s partner in repairing the world. At Community Synagogue, Rabbi Gropper is a guide, a mentor, a teacher and a leader.

Ordained in 1998 from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York, Rabbi Gropper has served congregations in California and Massachusetts. He holds a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters and one in Jewish Education from the Rhea Hirsch School of Jewish Education. He has long had a passion for education and youth, serving as a camp rabbi at various Jewish summer camps, including as faculty at the URJ Eisner Camp and as a vice-chair of the U.R.J.’s National Youth Commission and Commission for Lifelong Learning. Rabbi Gropper has strong commitments to Israel having led five congregational trips to Israel and he serves on the board of ARZA, the Association of Reform Zionists of America. In addition he is a member of Hebrew Union College's President's Rabbinic Council and the national council of United Jewish Communities and the steering committee of the Leadership Institute for Congregational School Educators. Locally, he sits on the board of trustees of the Rye Youth Council and is a founding member of the Rye Clergy Association. In addition, he is a Board member of Kavod a Tzedakah collective funding programs that help those in need to live in dignity and honor.

Rabbi Gropper is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia. He is a former ski instructor who loves the outdoors, reading and gourmet cooking. He and his wife Tamara and their three children, Elijah, Shai and Noa, reside in Harrison, New York. Rabbi Gropper can be reached at

Cantor Melanie Cooperman  
Cantor Cooperman Cantor Melanie Cooperman was raised in Minneapolis, MN. She received her Bachelor and Master degrees in vocal performance from the University of Minnesota. While at HUC-JIR, Melanie served as a Student Ambassador for recruitment for Hebrew Union College. Most recently, she worked as the Cantorial Intern at Congregation Rodeph Sholom in Manhattan for two years. Her other internships included Temple Chaverim in Plainview, NY; The Jewish Center of the Hamptons in East Hampton, NY; and Temple Sinai of Long Island in Lawrence, NY. She has also been privileged to spend time at Temple Beth Shalom in San Juan, PR and spent a summer at URJ Crane Lake Camp where she was an Outdoor Adventure Director. Rabbinic Intern Leora Frankel  
Leora Frankel Leora Frankel is currently a fifth year rabbinical student at Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion. She will be ordained as a Rabbi in May 2012 and will become our Assistant Rabbi in July. She grew up in East Brunswick, NJ and was very active in the Zionist youth movement Young Judaea. Leora completed the undergraduate Dual Degree Program between Barnard College and the Jewish Theological Seminary, majoring in Psychology and Bible, as well as a Master’s degree in Jewish Education at JTS. Following her MA program, Leora worked full time for Young Judaea and served as the Education Director of their high school leadership camp, Tel Yehudah. Leora has been to Israel over a dozen times, including two year-long academic programs, and has worked extensively in synagogue religious schools, family education, and Jewish camping. She has worked as the Rabbinic Intern for B’nai Jeshurun’s (NYC) Youth and Family Education Department for the past year and a half and is a Schusterman Rabbinical Fellow.
